Weed Densities in Perennial Flower Mixtures Cropped for Greater Arable Biodiversity

چکیده
The cropping of perennial wildflower mixtures to produce biomass for use in biogas plants is one option breaking maize’s dominance as a bioenergy feedstock. aim this study was investigate the development weeds commercially produced mixtures. Weed control during establishment very difficult manage and raises issue new weed problems when In three-year field experiment with staggered starts four sites northeast Germany, crop mixture sown each year. crops were surveyed annually June. Plant densities species numbers counted diversity indices calculated. Data analysed using linear mixed models. Across all sites, density decreased significantly over years (=cropping seasons), while richness remained unchanged. decreased, increased seasons. did not increase at any experimental sites. Although high poor first growing seasons, mix able suppress following season. It concluded that flower could contribute biodiversity without causing problems.

Vegetation analysis : The relation between weed densities and Raunkiær frequencies in arable fields
Raunkiær analysis (Raunkiær, 1934) is a method for vegetation density estimation, where a number of plots are examined. The frequency of plots in which a species is present is used as a measure of the density. Often analysis of such data is based on the assumption that the plants are distributed completely at random (Diggle, 1984; Böcher & Bentzon, 1958), an assumption that rarely holds for wee...
متن کاملMixtures of Radial Densities for Clustering Graphs
We address the problem of unsupervised learning on graphs. The contribution is twofold: (1) we propose an EM algorithm for estimating the parameters of a mixture of radial densities on graphs on the basis of the graph orbifold framework; and (2) we compare orbifold-based clustering algorithms including the proposed EM algorithm against stateof-the-art methods based on pairwise dissimilarities. ...
متن کاملDedicated biomass crops can enhance biodiversity in the arable landscape
Suggestions that novel, non-food, dedicated biomass crops used to produce bioenergy may provide opportunities to diversify and reinstate biodiversity in intensively managed farmland have not yet been fully tested at the landscape scale. Using two of the largest, currently available landscape-scale biodiversity data sets from arable and biomass bioenergy crops, we take a taxonomic and functional...
متن کاملMixtures for Weed Control in Newly Planted Loblolly Pine
Imazapyr, metsulfuron methyl, imazapyr plus metsulfuron methyl, and hexazinone plus metsulfuron methyl were aerially applied over newly planted and l-year-old loblolly pine seedlings for the control of blackberry (Rubus species), composites (Compositae), sumac (Rhus copallina L.), and trumpet vine [Campsis radicans (L.) Seemann]. The study was installed at three locations with three replication...
متن کاملInitializing normal mixtures of densities
It is well known that log-likelihood function for finite mixtures usually has local maxima and therefore the iterative EM algorithm for maximum-likelihood estimation of mixtures may be starting-point dependent. In the present paper we propose a method of choosing initial parameters of mixtures which includes two stages: (a) computation of nonparametric optimally smoothed kernel estimate of the ...
